Swallow Tattoos

Here we are with another entry into the swallow tattoos category. This sweet little bird is a cute tattoo but one must note the small set of devilish horns it has on its head, which tends to say to me that this person is probably a good person with just a bit of a rarely seen side of them that can be a bit mischievous. That seems to make sense and I would be willing to bet that it is what this person was thinking about when this drawing was designed. And I would have to say that this describes the vast majority of us as people. Therefore getting such a tattoo on our body would be something that would not be questioned very much at all once people understood what it meant.
The other meanings behind swallow tattoos is that swallows always return to the same home and I believe they are one of the only birds that keep the same mates for life. And with this being the case this type of tattoo was common among sailors for a great many years. It is also common among girls who just like the looks of pretty birds that have a bit of a devilish side to them.

A popular favorite among sailors is the swallow tattoo. These birds were important to sailors for several reasons. One, is that they were usually the first sign that land was near. Second, swallows return home to the same location year after year. They are therefore symbolic to sailors of a safe journey home. The origins of the swallow tattoo go back to a ship named The Swallow. At one time, the crew of the ship had a mutiny. In order to recognize each other, the 7 mutineers who started the mutiny had a swallow tattooed on their chest. After that, the swallow tattoo was the tattoo design for sailors to show off their sailing experience. Every five thousand nautical miles a sailor would traditionally have a swallow tattooed onto his chest. The more swallow tattoos a sailor had the greater his level of experience at sea. But, the sparrow tattoo also has another symbolic meaning. Since swallows mate for life this tattoo is often the symbol for love and loyalty to the family. Two Swallows in a tattoo are also considered to be symbols of freedom. It is a popular tattoo design amongst people who are just released from prison.
