koi fish tattoos
I really love this Koi fish tattoo. It mixes dark shades of blue with lighter shades of blue. I have seen many Koi fish tattoos but they are usually red, orange or yellow. Occasionally you’ll see one that is a light blue, but even that is pretty unusual. And you see very few, if any, which are in the darker shades of the color spectrum. I think that makes it even more unique of a design. Koi fish tattoos are as varied and as popular as the animal they represent. Koi tattoo designs are often combined with splashing water, cherry blossom and lotus flowers. Koi fish are a type of carp that the Japanese have bred over many generations to produce the brilliantly colored ornamental fish that we know today. The symbolism behind the Koi tattoo is generally thought to be one of luck and/or good fortune.. Interestingly, the Japanese assign different symbolic meanings to the fish depending upon the way it behaves, either in the pond or in the wild. The Chinese, on the other hand, have a very special interpretation of koi fish in general. The Chinese koi is also associated with life-long good fortune. A koi tattoo will bring you wealth and abundance according to many different Asian sources.

koi fish tattoos
This Koi fish tattoo is unlike any I have seen before it. Usually when you see a Koi fish tattoo it’s brightly colored. I have seen them done in shades of gold, blue, green, red, violet and orange. But, I don’t ever remember seeing a Koi fish tattoo done in black and white! I mean you just don’t see them done like that. And I’m not sure it’s a design that would go over well with traditionalist. The Japanese have spent thousands of years breeding these fish to produce many different brightly colored fish. And with one fell swoop of the tattoo gun this bearer has transformed the fish from the gem of ornamental ponds to just your ordinary fish! To tell you the truth, this Koi fish tattoo may as well be a bass or a catfish. Once they decided to do this fish in monotone then they have taken away the most defining characteristic of this majestic little carp. But, tattooing is about individuality and so, I have to give the bearer the proper respect he deserves. After all, it’s a bold move. But, at least they made a gutsy move to try something unique instead of just doing what everyone else has. I’ll give them credit for that.
